Pair of Fine Japanese Cloisonné Vases

This exquisite pair of Japanese Cloisonné enamel vases crafted during the later half of the 19th century. The vases are hexagonal-shaped baluster form and each has 6 reserves of enameled land and waterscape scenes featuring various birds amidst naturalistically rendered foliage. The ground also features intricate floral, scroll and geometric motifs. Both marked on the underside with a Cloisonné wire design featuring three small equidistantly spaced circles within a larger. Each vase measures approximately 9.5 inches height. (jc-11)

Two footed, trumpet-shaped lacquer vases decorated with very similar, though not identical floral sprays meticulously crafted from inlaid gemstones. A rust-colored stipple pattern adds a flourish both inside and also on bottoms. Condition: one butterfly missing inlay, some inlay replacement, wear commensurate with age, otherwise good overall. No marks, made in Japan. Dimensions: 5.25″ height. (sy25)
